Potting Paperwhite Bulbs

Growing in Soil: Choose a container with drainage and a well-draining potting mix. Pot the bulbs pointy side up and allow the tops to remain just above the soil surface. Bulbs may be planted very closely together. Water thoroughly after planting, then keep the soil lightly moist (not soggy) throughout the growing period.

Growing on Water: Paperwhites can be grown without soil by forcing them on stones, glass beads, shells, or any coarse medium. Fill your container with a layer of stones, then set the bulbs pointy side up on top. Tuck a few more stones around the base to hold them in place. Carefully add water until it sits
just below the bulb’s base—never cover the bulb itself. The roots will grow down into the water on their own.

Paperwhite Care

Detailed Paperwhite care instructions will be included with every shipment.

For best results, grow your bulbs in bright, indirect light and keep them in a cool room (65–70°F). Warmer temperatures or low light will cause stems to stretch and grow taller. Plan to provide decorative branches, bamboo stakes, or twine to support them as they grow.

With proper care, you can expect blooms within 4–6 weeks.

Paperwhites grown indoors are typically treated as a one-time display. Once the flowers fade, the bulbs will not reliably rebloom indoors. You may compost the bulbs or add them to your garden in warmer regions (zones 8–10), where they may naturalize and flower in future years.
